Total success of the Candles for Alzheimer’s Workshops
Those of us who spend our lives looking at the sea know that the Vigo estuary has something that cannot be explained with words. The sound of the water, the rocking of the boat, the smell of saltpetre…. Everything that gives us peace and clears our heads after a week of work, for a person with Alzheimer’s is much more.
The marine environment is a brutal therapeutic tool. The sea has the power to connect with a memory, to activate a forgotten stimulus or, simply, to give a moment of absolute calm that is difficult to find on land.
That is why, Saturday, June 13, we are especially looking forward to the. In the midst of the Blue 2026 Festival, we organized the Sails for Alzheimer’s Regatta. It is a social innovation project that we set up together with the friends of AFAGA Alzheimer and the Velas por el Alzheimer project, with the support and co-financing of IGAPE.
All set to cast off: our fleet’s sails are already set
In Julio Verne Náutica we have everything ready for the day to be round. We will provide four vessels from our own fleet with our professional skippers at the helm. The entire technical team has already received specific training from AFAGA specialists to ensure that every maneuver, every boarding and every mile is done in an environment of maximum safety, comfort and respect for users.
The places for the participants are already assigned and the crews are ready, but as the Ría de Vigo is very big, we want this sea party to be shared. We do not want to sail alone; we want the contour to be filled with solidarity and good seafaring atmosphere.
Invitation to shipowners and solidarity boats in Rías Baixas
Therefore, we open the doors of this event and extend an exclusive invitation to the entire sailing community in the area. We are looking for individuals, sailing schools, yacht clubs and entities in the marine sector that want to join this great solidarity flotilla.
If you have a sailboat in Vigo, Baiona or surroundings and you feel like sharing the morning of Saturday June 13 (in a quiet crossing between 12:00 and 14:30 hours), you have a reserved place with us on the water.
What about logistics? Don’t worry about anything. We will take care of the coordination with the families, the protocols of socio-sanitary support and the adapted accesses together with the professionals of AFAGA. The boats that join us only have to bring your deck, your experience at the helm and the desire to enjoy a navigation with a very special meaning.
A fully inclusive nautical day
The picture on the water is going to be spectacular. So that no one stays on land, Piratas de Nabia has joined the day by providing an accessible ferry with capacity for 200 people. In it will travel family members, caregivers, volunteers and friends who will follow the race attached to the main fleet, sharing the same atmosphere.
Toast to share the onshore experience
Upon returning to port, the activity will continue at Portocultura’s facilities, where we will enjoy catering and an institutional toast. For us, this meeting space at the end of the morning is as important as the two hours of sailing. It is the perfect time to sit and chat without looking at the clock, comment on the day, listen to the stories of the families and simply have a good time with friends.
Having a boat in Galicia is fortunate, but being able to live days like this is what really makes our nautical community great.
If you would like to join the flotilla on June 13 and join us in this unique experience, the deadline to register your partner boat is now open. You can fill out the form directly in the link below or stop by our office in the port so we can tell you all the details.
