What to expect from the course

Expert advice

Once on the boat, you will get expert guidance from the skipper, from navigating on digital media and charts to trimming the sails, you will accumulate a lot of experience and you will sail between 300 and 500 nautical miles.

On-call system

There will be a mix of day and night navigation, the usual system of surveillance on board: the watches. Every 24 hours maximum, the ship will anchor or arrive in port in order to rest and return to navigation with renewed energy.

Meteorology

There are many miles to go, daily weather analysis pushing except weather alert.

Acquiring experience

Our Mile Building program is designed to give you hands-on practice with instructors who will help you shorten your training timelines.

Night Navigation

After the sun goes down the sea looks like a very different place. You will practice night sailing at least half of the days of the voyage, getting to know and practice the use of the electronic aids that modern boats have.

Miles for RYA courses

As you progress through the RYA training scheme, you will need to accumulate miles for the Yachtmaster courses. Mile building Galicia from Julio Verne Náutica covers between 300 and 450 miles with several passages over 60 miles.

Route planning

We have a specific goal every day: to go from point A to point B, so every day on board you have to make a proper route plan. You will learn how to plan and execute piloting and route plans, avoiding surprises due to lack of planning.

Navigation summary
