SUBJECT

– PREPARATION BEFORE ENTERING PORT/PLACE: Prepare the ship for berthing.

– SKIPPER PREPARATION: The skipper must previously visualize the maneuver, evaluate the difficulty of the conditions prevailing at that moment and how he/she is going to perform it in the berth available to him/her.

– PREPARE THE CREW: A crew member can be a help or a hindrance when performing the maneuver, in general the crew members do not have enough practice and it is the skipper’s responsibility to instruct them, monitor their work, encourage them and correct the detected faults. What should never happen is that the skipper loses his cool.

– TRAINING THE CREW: Nobody knows how to do things without practice, here we will touch on how to train your crew to perform safe and stress-free dockings.

– SKIPPER TRAINING: The skipper must know how the boat reacts and automate the docking and undocking process.

– TYPES OF MOORING: Each mooring has its particularities and dangers as well as each port: more or less space, corridors, maritime traffic, prevailing conditions can make an experienced skipper decide to do one or another maneuver, always prioritizing simplicity and ease for the level and experience of the skipper and crew.

– UNLOCKING: This maneuver is a priori simpler than docking, although it has some particularities that we will work on
