{"id":15497,"date":"2022-11-30T15:33:32","date_gmt":"2022-11-30T14:33:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.juliovernenautica.com\/uncategorized\/yachtmaster-certificate-levels-and-attributions"},"modified":"2026-02-23T22:07:57","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T21:07:57","slug":"yachtmaster-certificate-levels-and-attributions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.juliovernenautica.com\/en\/nautical-training\/yachtmaster-certificate-levels-and-attributions","title":{"rendered":"Yachtmaster certificate, levels and attributions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yachting Certificate <\/span><b>Yacht Master is the highest training certificate offered by the RYA (Royal Yachting Association).<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is widely recognized worldwide and allows the possibility to work as a professional skipper in different seas, as we will explain below. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.juliovernenautica.com\/en\/rya-school\/rya-yachtmaster-theory\" rel=\"noopener\"><button style=\"padding: 10px 20px; font-size: 16px; background-color: #007bff; color: white; border: none; border-radius: 5px; cursor: pointer;\">RYA Yachtmaster<\/button><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Levels and differences within the Yacht Master certificate<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Yachtmaster certificate <\/span><b>is composed of three different titles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, y cada uno habilita al gobierno de embarcaciones a vela de diferentes esloras, a distintas distancias de costa y con diferentes prop\u00f3sitos (comercial o recreativo). These are the levels in which Yachtmaster is divided: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Yachtmaster Coastal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: sailboats up to 24 meters in length and navigation up to 60 miles from the coast. To access the course, you must have a Coastal Skipper theory level and a minimum of 800 miles sailed in passages of more than 60 consecutive miles. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Yachtmaster Offshore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: sailboats up to 200 gt and navigation up to 150 miles from the coast. To access this qualification, you must have a Coastal Skipper theory level and a minimum of 2,500 miles sailed in passages of more than 60 consecutive miles. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Yachtmaster Ocean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: any recreational vessel without limits on length or distance from the coast. To access it, you must hold the Yachtmaster Offshore and have completed a passage of more than 600 miles in the ocean using celestial navigation. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yachtmaster Coastal, Offshore and Ocean <\/span><b>have some equivalence with Spanish recreational sailing qualifications: PER, Patr\u00f3n de Yate and Capit\u00e1n de Yate, respectively.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. And unlike in Spain, you can start directly in Yacht Master Offshore if you have the necessary training and experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>How can I obtain a Yachtmaster certificate?<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Firstly, making sure that you <\/span><b>you meet the mandatory experience\/qualification requirements<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  for each of the levels. It is also essential to have a   <\/span><b>minimum level of English<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The course contents are taught in English and the exam is in English. <\/span> <\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After these considerations, it is advisable to <\/span><b>to take an <\/b><a style=\"font-weight: 400;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.juliovernenautica.com\/en\/rya-school\/rya-yachtmaster-theory\"><b><u>intensive theory course preparatory to Yacht Master.<\/u><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  which lasts 40 hours, and is generally divided into 5 days in which you will review everything you need to know for the Yacht Master Coastal or Offshore certification (the theory is the same in both cases). &#8230;. This course is not compulsory, but without this knowledge you will find it very difficult to pass the practical exam and more importantly, you will be failing to learn.   <\/span><b>very important contents to improve your skills and safety at sea.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After passing the theoretical exam, the second step is to participate in the<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">participate in <\/span><b>a practical preparation called <\/b><a style=\"font-weight: 400;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.juliovernenautica.com\/en\/rya-school\/rya-yachtmaster-theory\/yachtmaster-preparation-week-at-sea\"><b><u>Yachtmaster Preparation Week at Sea<\/u><\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which consists of 4 days of practice on board a boat during which you prepare for the exam.
